I had a cousin who had the same problem and here's how we solved it. Buy a bottle of children's nail polish (clear polish). It's safe and non-toxic. Add a little bit of Cayenne pepper (or any other type of bitter oil) to the polish and polish their finger nails. Once they bit their nails after that, the taste and slight burning sensation on their tongues (from the Cayenne) kept them from biting their nails. It took about 3 days (and I had to reapply the polish twice) but now they are completely cured of that particular habit. Hope this helps!
