It is purely psychological. Some sounds stimulate senses in the body which make it seem terrible.
You can overcome the ';terribleness'; of the sound by learning what senses are bothered and overtake them.

I think its the vibrations that your ears have a hard time reacting to, which makes that screeeeeeach sound.
