i herd it was dead cells that made up the hair and nails in your body. is that true? however now i am hearing that ist not.What in your body produces hair and nails?

special type of hair, and nail cells called keratinoid cells that produce keratin that make up hair, and nails. basically they are specialized cells that produce those things. i believe the hair and nails are dead once they are outside the body. but the stuff surrounding them like your scalp and your cuticles are living to provide nourishment and keep producing new hair and nails.
