Can you clip a puppies nails with human nail clippers?

I have a 7 wk old puppy whose nails are extremely sharp and long. Shes a tea cup Shih tzu so her nails are also very small. Would cutting them with human nail clippers hurt her?

ps. I know how to cut dogs nails, just not too sure how to cut hers...Can you clip a puppies nails with human nail clippers?
sure you can use human toe nail clippers, but if you do not know how far to cut, you'll cut the quick and if you don't know how to stop the breeding, you'll have another problem

go to pet smart or your Vet they chage like 10.00 to 11.00 to clip nails

its safe

also if you got your puppy wihtout shots now or at 8 weeks old when 1st shot is due,ask your Vet to clip nails

once your puppy has had all its shots walking on cement will keep his/her nails trimmed

so fo now they will grow like weeds and every 2 to 3 weeks they need a trimCan you clip a puppies nails with human nail clippers?
Absolutely - in fact, I use the infant nail clippers you'd find in the drugstore in the baby section for all puppies and small dogs. They just catch the hook on the tip, which is just what you need to nip off.

You will be able to see the quick, which is the non-nail part of the claw, at the core. That's where the nerves are, as well as the blood supply. That's what you %26lt;don't%26gt; want to clip, or it'll be painful, and teach the puppy that she doesn't want you doing that.

But if you use the infant nail clippers, you should be able to just nip off the tiny tips, and leave a triangle. Make sure you extend the toe by squeezing at the base, which will give you a better view of what you're working on.
I cut the puppies claws with human nail clippers up to about 4 weeks when they get too thick, then I use proper nail clippers. Bear in mind I have large breeds. It will only hurt if you get the quick of the nail and then it bleeds like nobodys business, make sure you have something to stop the bleeding. Those electric filers scare the heck out of me, having seen some horrible results when inexperienced people have tried to use them.

By the way, what is a teacup shih tzu, I have never heard of one of those?
no no no no!!!! unlike humans dogs have blood vessels within their nail and if you cut them the bleeding can be severe and extremely painful for the pup.!!

you should never ever use a human clipper. You can buy the doggy filer thing. I'm not sure of the exact name but its all over the TV. It rotates sort of filing the dogs nail without clipping or going too low. It's inexpensive and lasts a very long time. it's really a great thing to have.

hope that helps! good luck with the pup!
You might want to watch the groomer do it the first time. Ask questions so you know for the next time. you do it. I think you will need two people as most dogs squirm. As I understand it the quick can grow quire long in these little fellas. So you really need to be on solid ground.
You can but it doesn't work well. I use human clippers for my cats claws because I get better results, but dog claws are more round and pet clippers would work best.

You can do it though, I use to with my small breed dog.
Umm....No. That is not a good idea. That could hurt them and the clippers might not be sharp enough to cut there thick nails. You will probably need to go to either a like Wal MArt or a pet store and get Special dog clippers!
Hi!

It is possible to cut a dogs nails with human nail clippers, but it is not recommended at all! To clip a puppies nails you should get, dog nail clippers!

Good luck, and congrats on your new puppy.
There are no tea cup Shih Tzus. All dogs nails are the same. Take her to the vet if you are unsure about cutting the nails.
NO! you will hurt the poor puppy u need to use doggy clippers and if you don`t know how to use them ask a near by veterinary for help with them.
Human nail clippers are easier to use on very small dogs because the nails are so tiny. So, yes, it is fine to use them.
no no no! that is EXTREMELY dangerous for the dog.
No you need to use dog nail clippers.
No I would use the normal clippers you would use on a dog.
yes, then cat clippers for the small dogs.
